After practicing civil litigation in Wichita, Joslyn M. Kusiak returned to her hometown of Independence, Kansas to join Attorney William J. Kelly in his 40 years established law practice and form Kelly & Kusiak Law Office LLC. Joslyn is currently the sole business owner of and lawyer at Kelly & Kusiak Law Office LLC. Joslyn’s current legal practice includes estate planning and administration, business formation and providing ongoing business consulting, and civil litigation. She also serves as municipal court judge for the City of Independence.
Joslyn is uniquely situated as a subject-matter expert because not only does she represent clients in business matters, but she’s a business owner herself. As such, Joslyn can truly relate to her clients because she’s also worn all the hats by serving as decision maker, management, marketing, finances, human resources, technology, and security. Joslyn’s favorite part of being a business owner is being in control of her own decisions and destiny. As an attorney for businesses, Joslyn truly enjoys being a part of the team to set businesses up for success.
Joslyn is a 2009 graduate of Missouri State University and a 2012 graduate of Washburn University School of Law. While in law school, she served as staff editor for the Washburn Law Journal, clerked for the Honorable Steve Leben at the Kansas Court of Appeals, clerked with the Kansas Highway Patrol, and interned at the Washburn Law Civil Litigation Clinic.
No stranger to local community involvement, Joslyn served two terms on the Young Professionals of Wichita Board of Trustees and Kansas Leadership Center Visioneering Health Alliance. Joslyn was a founding member of the Young Professionals of Independence, serving as its inaugural President. In June 2018, Joslyn was honored with the Kansas Bar Association Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. Joslyn presently serves as the Vice Chair to the Kansas Continuing Legal Education Board and serves on the Kansas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees and Kansas Bar Association Board of Governors as the Young Lawyer Delegate to the American Bar Association. Joslyn and her husband, the Honorable Jeffrey W. Gettler, are avid KU basketball fans who enjoy traveling and entertaining guests.
